I'm running out of titles for these beach scenes. How many ways can you describe such a beautiful place? I worked on this while getting windows installed and pavers put down in the driveway. My easel was really the only place I could be out of the way, so the drills were drilling and the saws were sawing, and I pretended I was back on North Captiva Island listening to the sound of the Laughing Gulls.

I called this painting "Happiness" because that is what the beach is to a child. What can be more fun than running around in the water, floating in waves with your parents holding you securely, or digging in the sand? There are no computer games, no TV, little noise except the ocean, and none of those things can provide the kind of joy that God gives us at a place where the ocean meets the shore.

There was golden light glittering on the water at the shore, and this time I did not use metallic paint. I like the cluster of little birds busily finding their breakfast. This is an 8x6 original oil painting, signed and ready to frame.

I returned from the doldrums today and I'm glad to be back. I painted, then went to the gym, which made me feel so much better. I was in the doldrums so long I started wondering what the etymology of that word was. Turns out it is an equatorial region of the Atlantic Ocean with calms, sudden storms, and light unpredictable winds. Just like where I live. Fancy that.

The ocean is exhilarating, and right now people are flocking to the beach in the exultation of Spring. Our water has been a gorgeous color lately, and worthy of painting. 

I worked overly hard on this one; it took me a while to be satisfied with my results. There is danger in that, because sometimes you pass the point where you should have stopped. I ended up layering mixes of color and Liquin until I was satisfied with the results.

This was a busy sky over San Miguel de Allende. It had light, darkness, rain, and almost a rainbow. There was a lot going on.

Speaking of a lot going on, yesterday morning I saw the real Rosie the Riveters on TV at the White House. In their 80s and 90s, I got the feeling they could still pop-rivet today if needed. They are vivacious and smart, just what I want to be when I grow up.

Some sunrises are "quieter" than others. This one was very soft, but that's because I just didn't get there in time for the bright reds of early morning. I like the softer side of sunrise too.

"If you want to be reminded of the love of the Lord, just watch the sunrise."

That quotation is from Jeanette Walls, who wrote Glass Castles. Every whiny, demanding child should be made to read Glass Castles, about Ms Walls' childhood, to make them see how good they have it. It's a terrific book and one of those that sticks in my memory. With my memory lately, it takes a really good book to to linger in there for long.

I thought I would walk to the beach to catch the sunrise, but I was late coming out the door, and this is what I saw. I didn't make it to the beach in time, but I love the silhouetted palms against the colorful sunrise. Florida sunrises and sunsets are so fabulous it's hard to make them look believable.

Walking on the beach is such a calming experience, and very good exercise if you can refrain from stopping frequently to take pictures. I just can't pass up a shot of beautiful light, or lots of wave action, or nice colors. There is always a lot going on.

I see that there is a painting on eBay by George Zimmerman, and the bidding is up to $99,966.00. Apparently notoriety equals artistic success. Carravagio killed someone too, but he could paint.
